My dad has become quite crafty in his age, with the urging from my mother that is. None the less, every year we have what we call girls day where my family and I will get together at my grandmothers house and do something crafty. Originally it’s usually Christmas type crafts, usually wood pieces, but this year we wanted to do something a little different. Now that I live farther away from my family they try and plan things out around when my family are coming down for a visit and what works best for everyone else that attends. It’s something that I look forward to every year, although it isn’t just ‘girls’ anymore whom are the ones doing the crafts. My brother attends from time to time as do my cousins. All of which have a crafty bones in their bodies of course!
Anyways, this year we decided on doing welcome signs meant for a front porch. Which my dad so generously made enough for those that were going to be participating in girls day and wanted to make one. He used old reclaimed barn and fence wood. Which of course gave each sign I did a nice rustic look I think.
I personally did one for my home and I ended up making my grandmothers as well since she wasn’t feeling all that well. I felt privileged and all around happy that I would be able to make her’s. My grandmother is well known for her gigantic sunflowers she tends to grow, so I thought it would be very fitting to paint a sunflower on her’s. As well as a ‘Welcome to Granny’s’ on it. I think it come out pretty good if you ask me.
As for mine, I’ve had a love hate relationship with it. It took me a bit to decide how I wanted to set it up and paint it, but I really wanted to bring out the rustic old look of the wood with a pop of color. I think I achieved it pretty nicely. It took me an entire day to do this one, but I’m pretty happy with how it came out. It also looks pretty darn nice on my porch if I do say so myself too.
I really hope to get more crafty things done here in the future. Especially when it comes to making Deco Mesh wreaths. I’ve come to find out that painting, and making wreaths is such a great way to get rid of stress and rid my mind of any kind of anxiety I may be having. I hope to be an inspiration someday.
